Shape Optical Illusions

Wobbly

Wobbly All lines in this picture are perfectly parallel. They seem wavy because of the little white squares.

Café Wall Illusion

Café Wall Illusion There are only straight lines in this picture, but because of the placement of the black and white tiles, the horizontal lines seem to be wavy. The name of this illusion is no coincidence : this was first noticed on the black and white tiles of a café wall in Bristol. (Probably a trick to make people believe they needed a drink). This is also known as the Muensterberg figure. No, I don't know why.

Ehrenstein Illusion - Walter Ehrenstein

Ehrenstein Illusion - Walter Ehrenstein As usual you'll have trouble believing it but this is a perfect square. Because of the background with circles, your vision can't determine that the square is made up of straight lines.

Frasers Spiral - James Fraser, 1908

Frasers Spiral - James Fraser Also known as the twisted cord illusion. It looks as if this is a spiral, but in fact it's a series of circles.

Hidden Circles

Hidden Circles This image, resembling a wooden door or something, contains sixteen perfect circles. Stare at the white x in the middle for a while, and they will suddenly pop out. The first time I read the description of the illusion I couldn't believe it. Perfect circles in a picture with only straight lines ? But it's true, see for yourself.
