Julian Beever
Julian Beever is a UK-based street painter, famous for his chalk drawing, often on a sidewalk. You'll only need one look at some of his work to realize he's a real master in this art form. Because the drawings are made on the ground, some of them have to be made anamorphic (distorted). You need a particular viewpoint to see the image in 3D (see anamorphosis for more examples). The art of creating an image that looks real is called trompe l'oeil.

An absolutely insane chalk drawing on the pavement. Batman an Robin are going to save a man from a burning building. Don't you get high anxiety when you look at this drawing ? Note the level of details : the real pavement is actually casting a "shadow" on the buildings below it. |

No, this is not a cut-and-paste of a real coke bottle in Photoshop. This coke bottle is drawn. In chalk. On pavement. Really incredible, I'm sure you'll agree. |

It's hard to make a 3D drawing on the ground. This picture looks only good from one point of view. When seen from the other side it looks entirely different. Click on the enlarged picture to look from the other side. |

It looks like a piece of the pavement has been taken out. |
